As we celebrate our first year in our new premises at Orion House, we're looking forwards to 2010 being another very successful year for Gael. We report on how Q-Pulse is broadening the scope of safety in aviation, as well as discussing how it can help healthcare organisations to improve patient safety.

This edition also sees the release of our product roadmap for 2010. And as our Community celebrates two years since its launch, we announce the launch of Global Support, together with details of further improvements to Gael Academy.

Version 5.7 will be the next release of Q-Pulse and will be made available to customers in April 2010. There will be a range of improvements and performance increases included with the release.

The release features some major improvements to the Occurrence and Incident modules (part of Q-Pulse IMS) and gives Secondary Licence users the ability to do more. In addition, we’ve taken note of and implemented some of the most requested features from the Community forums...

Starting a new job always fills you with a mixture of emotions - new challenges, new people, new ways of working - so it was a really strange experience to move into a role where I fully understood the challenges, knew most of the people and found myself in control of the ways of working to truly hit the ground sprinting!

So who am I? Many moons ago back in the mid-1990s, an ex-colleague and I decided to implement Q-Pulse as the basis for our food safety and quality management system. I then moved on to build a successful business around Q-Pulse with nothing more than a desire to help companies benefit from what Q-Pulse had to offer...

As mentioned in our introduction, to ensure customers outside of the UK can get the support they need, when and where they need it, we're proud to announce that we'll be extending our hours for Q-Pulse support.

Beginning in April, you'll be able to log into the Support Portal to request a Support call, and a Support Engineer will call you back. Later in the year we'll also announce changes to the Portal that will further improve how technical and usability issues can be managed.

In the current economic climate, we show you how the Academy can save you money through training, with access to a new white paper published by IBM that reveals how training can improve staff retention, increase profit margins and productivity.

In line with our industry-specific web presentations, we also bring you news of how we're continuing to add value to our exclusive Academy Live service, with sessions to be led by compliance professionals.

We're also proud to announce the release of our Academy Roadmap for 2010, with details of industry-specific courses, new ways in which we'll be delivering content, and how we're integrating Academy for use with other systems, including Q-Pulse.

In this edition, we take a look at improving patient safety, as recent research reveals that many NHS bodies in England have failed to put systems in place to monitor compliance with the implementation of patient safety alerts.

In addition, with a recent UK study showing numerous errors in a high number of paediatric drug treatments, we look at ways in which pharmacists in the NHS can improve patient safety incident statistics.

We also bring you an exclusive report on the commitment of Malaysian hospitals to improving the safety and quality of health care across the country, despite a lack of governmental or regulatory pressure to do so.

As Q-Pulse use continues to increase throughout the industry, we'll be attending this year's European Aviation Safety Seminar (EASS) in Lisbon, which addresses safety challenges facing the European aviation industry.

We also bring you details of how Q-Pulse is helping to broaden the scope of safety beyond Flight Safety, with our announcements of Dubai Air Navigation Services (DANS) and the New Zealand Aviation Security Service's selection of Q-Pulse.

These announcements come after rigorous selection processes by both organisations, and serve to further strengthen our reputation as the leading provider of Safety and Quality solutions to the global aviation industry.

Around two years ago, we launched Gael Community to provide a single location for all your compliance and Q-Pulse needs. The Community has grown steadily and is now over 2,500 members strong.

Our aim is to make the Community the first place to go for your compliance and Q-Pulse needs, from asking questions about Q-Pulse to reading about and discussing industry issues with fellow professionals. To make it even better, we’d love to hear your feedback.
